Supporting ESTHER

UNLESS someone like you cares ...

UNLESS someone like you cares a whole awful lot, it's not going to get better. It's not.

ESTHER cares. So do you.

Together, we can help things get better!

Funding Sources of ESTHER

To do its work, ESTHER relies on financial support from

Facing Challenges Together

Facing Challenges Together

voices of hopeESTHER has just received word of a $5,000 challenge grant that can double the amount of new contributions we receive in the remainder of 2017. In these times, when there are so many negative challenges, it’s wonderful to have this positive challenge—an opportunity to help make ESTHER stronger for the work of the future.

Now beginning its 14th year, ESTHER has an impact far out of proportion to its modest finances. Within our $85,000 annual budget, we support a full-time organizer and part-time office assistant, train members to work for systemic change on issues that matter to them, host public events on topics of common concern, and collaborate with other Wisconsin organizations focused on positive change.

We want to build our financial strength as an organization so that we can train more leaders, partner with more non-profits, build stronger relationships with elected officials and policy makers, communicate better with the people of the Fox Valley and beyond, bring about more positive change.

Will you help us, by responding to our year-end challenge grant opportunity?

Here's how! (See our progress here.)

Yes, I'll Help!

This event is a benefit for ESTHER, made possible by sponsorship of St. Thomas More Community, Appleton; St. Bernard Parish, Appleton; and Casa Esther, Omro. A free-will offering will be taken.

When: Saturday, April 1, 7:00 pm

Chili Cook-OffFox Valley Chili Lovers Take Notice!

ESTHER is having a chili cook-off to tickle your taste buds and raise funds for ESTHER! It will be held in conjunction with the ADI Winter Market at City Center Mall in Appleton on Saturday, December 17, 2016.

We are currently enlisting up to ten teams ($20 entry fee), which will be judged by attendees who will each get a spoon to taste the team entries ($5 for the spoon) and a ballot to vote for their favorite chili. The team with the most votes will win a $100 gift certificate to Antojitos Mexicanos!

Support ESTHER through Alternative Gifts

package with red bowAre you a person who’s “hard to buy for” at holiday time or on birthdays or other special occasions? You already have all the shirts, ties, scarves, slippers, motorized shoe polishers or battery-powered wine openers you need. And you hate fruitcake.

More and more, people are turning to “alternative gifts” in situations like these.

ESTHER would love to be the recipient of alternative gifts made in your honor.

Change the World. Start Now! Join ESTHER.

Would you like to change the world? We would!

  • Do you believe that it is possible for people to join together to build community across faith traditions, race, class, gender, ethnicity and many other differences that might ordinarily keep us apart?
  • Are you inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King's vision that we can, one day, live in shared abundance, because poverty, hunger, homelessness, racism and bigotry need not exist if only we respect and honor each other and work together?
  • Are you tired of, frustrated by, and alarmed at hate speech directed at people living in poverty, people of color, immigrants, those of “different” faiths?

Change the world.* Start now! Join ESTHER.

Will you join us? Will you become a member of ESTHER, or renew your existing membership?

Your membership in ESTHER helps us train grass-roots leaders to tackle tough issues and shine light in dark places. (At seven sessions in the last year, in English and Spanish, we've trained over 175 people.)

It helps us bring the community together to learn about challenges and consider solutions that will bring positive change. (We brought the replica solitary confinement cell to UW-Fox, where over 1,500 people visited; over 1,000 people have participated in Walk in Our Shoes, our Latino/a simulation.)

It helps us work with governmental officials and community leaders in making the Fox Valley a place where everyone has access to opportunities to thrive. (We brought residents and government officials together to resolve a dispute over access to public soccer fields; we stopped proposed state legislation that would have adversely affected low-income people and our immigrant neighbors.)

I Want to Join ESTHER

Join ESTHER now, and receive a full-color window cling to show your support in your car, office, or on any window! But more important, by becoming a member, you become part of a group of forward-looking people who work toward a more just and generous world.
