Dear ESTHER members and friends:

This letter is being sent on behalf of the ESTHER executive committee as well as the members of the Leadership Board. It is with mixed emotions that I write to inform you of the resignation of Stephanie Gyldenvand, ESTHER’s Organizer, who has served with the highest level of dedication and professionalism during nearly eight years. She is leaving ESTHER to accept a position with the Public Health Department of Winnebago County. Her last day with ESTHER will be June 17.

We are excited for Stephanie as she anticipates a new position with fresh challenges and important opportunities to make a difference, as she certainly has done in her work with ESTHER. There is some consolation in that her commitment to doing justice will be ongoing within the wider Fox Valley area.

At the same time, we will dearly miss her, for both the person she is and what she has brought to her work — energy, can-do spirit, strength in the face of challenge, and unwavering commitment in seeking greater justice and building stronger community throughout the Fox Valley. Stephanie has touched us, even as she has contributed significantly over the years to bringing ESTHER to its present level of strength and capability. In fact, it is difficult to do justice to our attempts to identify her achievements and contributions on behalf of the community.

Please know that the ESTHER Board is already working on plans to sail smoothly through the up-coming time of transition until we are able to secure a new organizer. We are in a strong financial position. We have clear goals and we enjoy committed, capable volunteer leaders who can carry forward our ongoing work in advocating for transportation equity, reduced prison populations, and fair treatment for our immigrant neighbors. We trust we will be able to turn to you for continued financial and moral support of the work we do.

Meanwhile, we extend our sincerest thanks and utmost appreciation to Stephanie for her dedicated service to ESTHER and the Fox Valley community during her years with us, and we wish her well in the new work she is about to begin.

Best,

Joe Mattern

Fr. Joe Mattern, President
