Please join the ESTHER Environmental Justice Task Force & the UU Fellowship’s Green Sanctuary Justice Action Ministry in a Unitarian Universalist community screening and discussion with the filmmakers and protagonists of the award-winning climate justice documentary, The Condor & The Eagle.
The discussion will also include Anakhwet Guy Reiter, Executive Director of Menīkāaehkem - Menominee Rebuilders, who can address the efforts of Wisconsin’s Indigenous people to combat harmful extractive industry projects.

This nonpartisan project will help you share vetted information about Wisconsin elections with voters through trivia, crafts and public art. In this game, players compete with other volunteers across the state to complete as many Missions as possible before the weekend ends.
The event runs from 4:00 pm CDT on Thursday, October 8, until 8:00 pm on Sunday, October 11.
Our 2020 virtual “Banquet” celebration started out strong, with an amazing program and an audience of over 220 people registered to participate. As the event began on November 1, however, we realized that the “livestream” on YouTube was neither live nor streaming.
All efforts to fix it failed. IRL (in real life), the program was actually taking place at the scheduled time, but no one could see it! The live program was recorded, however, so we are able to share it with you.
On November 8, a large and enthusiastic audience watched the recorded “Banquet” video premiere together on YouTube. And now we are making it available to all.

Keynote Speaker: Dr. Bettina Love
Dr. Love will discuss how intersectionality and Abolitionist teaching creates a space where Black lives matter and sensibilities are nurtured to engage communities in the work of fighting for visibility, inclusion, and justice. Her talk will end by calling all of us to engage in critical dialogues about racial violence, oppression, and how to make sustainable change in our communities. She will challenge us to envision a world built on Black joy, creativity, imagination, boldness, ingenuity, and the rebellious spirit and methods of abolitionists.

The plenary session, to be held from 10 am to 12 noon, will be moderated by Joy Cardin (formerly of Wisconsin Public Radio). It will include information, inspiration and interaction – a chance to think and talk with other ESTHER and WISDOM members about values and goals.
A book has been compiled covering the themes for the day, has been prepared. You can download your copy here or through the ‘Attachments’ link below.
In the afternoon, participants will meet with their state Senators and Assembly Representatives, or their representatives.

Join members and friends of ESTHER at Jefferson Park in Menasha on the evening of July 20 for an ice cream treat and an outdoor showing of this special film.
About the film: For decades, child welfare authorities have been removing Native American children from their homes to “save them from being Indian.” In Maine, the first official Truth and Reconciliation Commission in the United States begins a historic investigation. Dawnland goes behind-the-scenes as this historic body grapples with difficult truths, redefines reconciliation, and charts a new course for state and tribal relations.
Please try to arrive between 7:00 and 7:30. You will want to have time to enjoy some ice cream and socializing.
Brief program at 8:00 featuring highlights from ESTHER’s task forces and an introduction to the film.
Dawnland (1-hour movie) begins at 8:30.

Fox Cities Advocates for Public Education is holding a Rally for Public School Funding, to challenge recent action by the Joint Finance Committee.
The proposed 2021-23 state budget for education, approved by the Joint Finance Committee, does not meet basic inflationary benchmarks for funding K-12 schools. Since the proposal also does not meet the requirements of U.S. COVID relief packages, $2.3 billion in federal relief funding is now at risk.

You’re Invited to the Woman’s Hour

The Fox Valley 19th Amendment Centennial Coalition invites us to attend The Woman’s Hour on Women’s Equality Day, August 26. The event starts at 4:30 PM at Perry Hall on the University of Wisconsin-Fox Cities Campus and features award-winning author, journalist and speaker Elaine Weiss.
In her book, The Woman’s Hour: The Great Fight to Win the Vote, Weiss provides a gripping account of the ratification of the 19th Amendment. Steven Spielberg’s Amblin TV is currently developing The Woman’s Hour for television, with former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton serving as executive producer.
A wine and hors d’oeuvre reception will precede the program, which starts at 5:45 PM. Elaine Weiss will sign copies of her book following the program.

Celebrate Diversity Fox Cities will be hosting its annual Community Cookout on Saturday, August 21, 2021 from 11:00 am-3:00 pm. Come celebrate progress with food, entertainment, and laughter. The theme for this year is, “We All Call This Home.”
In July, nearly 200 people participated in the first monthly gathering and started learning how to stand up for truth in public schools. Many people want to keep our children from learning about our country’s troubling past and present regarding how African-American, Native American and other people of color have had their land, labor and liberty stolen from them.
Since that first Zoom meeting, people in all parts of the state have taken action (like joining Prayer Vigils and testifying at School Board meetings), More than 200 people have taken the Faithful Equity Pledge. All are invited to this month’s meeting as we work to keep building the momentum and to keep organizing.
If you want truth (even when it hurts) and equity taught and practiced in our schools and in our whole society, join this meeting to learn how to keep your voice heard, and not drowned out by the voices of those who are afraid of the truth.
This initiative is co-sponsored by the Wisconsin Council of Churches, WISDOM, Wisconsin Faith Voices for Justice, Wisconsin Council of Rabbis, and the Lutheran Office for Public Policy in Wisconsin.
