Remembering Reverend King PosterA community worship service is being offered to help mark the 50th Anniversary of the assassination of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King. A group of Christian leaders drawn from across the spectrum of denomination, ethnicity, and religious tradition are planning the event entitled “Remembering Rev. King: a community worship encounter.” It will take place on Sunday, April 8 at 3:00 pm in the Grand Ballroom of the Paper Valley Hotel.

Marking 50 years since King’s death will bring grief and a sobering recognition of how far we have yet to go in pursuit of Rev. Dr. King’s dream. We believe this worship service will celebrate his legacy and ongoing influence through a combination of joyous music, heartfelt hope, and inspiring message. Speakers will talk about King’s gospel message in 5 themes: Unity, Freedom, Love, Justice, and Peace.

Featured speakers will be drawn from our local community, including Pastor Alvin Dupree of Family First Ministries, Trinity Vang of The Refuge, Pastor Shawn Whitworth of the Mission Church, Lawrence University chaplain Rev. Linda J. Morgan-Clement, and Father Joe Matern of CASA Esther. Worship leaders include Rev. Dr. Stephen Savides of First Congregational Church, pastor Dennis Episcopo of Appleton Alliance Church, Rev. Mike Goodwin of Memorial Presbyterian, and Pastor B Vang of the Refuge Church. Dr. Phillip Swan of Lawrence University and Appleton Alliance Church will conduct a mass choir drawn from many churches and our community.
