Public Hearing & Candidate Forum on Prison Reform

Posted in

inmate in a cellTell your legislators what you think! ESTHER’s Treatment Instead of Prison (TIP) task force is sponsoring a candidate forum and public hearing on Sept. 23 in Neenah. This event will give formerly incarcerated individuals and family/friends of those incarcerated the opportunity briefly to share issues regarding corrections. Candidates running for the legislature representing the districts in the greater Fox Valley region will hear these issues and respond to questions on issues dealing with the corrections system.

At the last forum, legislators came together for true dialogue around the table, and we look forward to continuing that dialogue this time.

  • When: 6:30 PM, September 23, 2014

ESTHER’s TIP Task Force is part of the statewide 11x15 Campaign for Healthier and Safer Communities, with the goal of reducing the prison population in Wisconsin by 11,000 by the end of 2015 through redirecting nonviolent offenders into treatment programs instead of prison. Treatment is more effective in reducing recidivism, and is far cheaper than prison. This is a big step toward a more rational, humane, and just criminal justice system in Wisconsin.
